| DESIGN NAME: Mermaid PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace INSPIRATION: The designer was inspired by the image of a mermaid, who has been a part of folklore among many nations for centuries. Oceans and seas leave us plenty of space for mysteries, myths and everything in between. The dual mermaid entity symbolizes the power of nature, on one hand, that controls the sea and the sensual women's power, on the other hand. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The necklace shows the moment of the mermaid's magical transformation into a girl. The mermaid is surprised and considering an amazing gift, her legs. Different forms of bezels for stones reflect the moment of magic. The green gems at the bottom of the composition represent a tail of the mermaid, which is slowly disappearing during transformation. An innovative digital modeling, 3D printing, together with traditional jewelry making techniques provides a unique opportunity for a new design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This luxury necklace is designed for wearing on special occasions. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The necklace was created via CAD software (Matrix, Rhino, Zbrush). The 3D model was 3D printed in a wax-like resin. Afterward, a plaster mold was made for casting. Many bezels were soldered and prepolished before setting stones. 14K white gold and 232 gemstones (diamonds, tourmalines, emeralds, yellow and orange sapphires) total - 2.32 carats are used for the necklace. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions 45,6 mm* 62,2 mm* 11 mm. Weight 14,49gr TAGS: marmaid, necklace, fine jewelry, gold RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My research indicated that nobody ever created a necklace with a mermaid at the moment of her magical transformation. Nobody ever tried to create a similar design for a jewelry piece using sculpture and freeforms. CHALLENGE: Digital sculpting of realistic human figure was the most challenging part. NAME: Larisa Zolotova PROFILE: Larisa Zolotova has been in the jewelery design business for years, focusing on incorporating unique modern, classical and organic forms into her fine jewelry creations. Her early designs were originally created in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2013, and later she continued her education to further develop her skills as a jewelry designer at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, CA in 2016. |
