| DESIGN NAME: Lina Armchair PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: The tubular chairs started being developed in the Bauhaus and become some of the most important design icons. We love them and we asked ourselves how could we warm things up in a Brazilian way We thought of bringing materials that are widely used in the Brazilian tropical climate, such as wood (for the structure) and linen (for the upholstery). To reinforce the most fragile points, we decided leaving the "original" metal. A solution that could bring, in addition to structural benefits, an interesting contrast of materials. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Lina Armchair is characterized by the contrast between the metal connections and the rest of its wooden structure. This unique combination, plus the seat and the backrest upholstered with feathers, result in a visually lightweight product, elegant yet extremely comfortable and cozy. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: With Poltrona Lina we try to value the qualities of the different materials and their combination. In this way, we mix the warmth of the wood, with the sturdiness of the metal and the softness of the upholstered fabrics with feathers, to obtain a visually light but robust and cozy armchair. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in 2015 and finished in 2016. It was exhibited in the Rio+Design Exihibition durign the Salone del Mobile 2017 and was chosen one of the highlights of the ArtRio 2017 by Casa Vogue, the most prestigious brasilian design magazine. It won de first prize in the Professional Category of Salão Design 2018, the bigest (in number of applications) design award in Latin America. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Structure in solid wood (brazilian-walnut natural, brown or ebony colored) and molten metal with different surface treatment options; cushion holder made of cut and sewn leather (or fabric), along with buttons to attach firmly to the structure; Seat and backrest cushion upholstered with feathers, coated with fabric or leather. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product dimensions: Width 750mm x Depth 750mm x Height 780mm TAGS: armchair, brasilian design, comfort, elegant combination of materials, attention to details RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Lina Armchair has been designed for Elon, a high quality brasilian furniture brand, based on a research on tubular metal armchairs, which started being designed in the Bauhaus. To warm things up in a Brazilian way, wood was included as part of the structure. The metal continued to be used in the connections for structural, productive and aesthetics reasons. As a result, Lina Armchair stands out for its sophistication, comfort, elegant combination of materials, and attention to details. CHALLENGE: Design a visually light but robust, elegant and cozy armchair. Genuinely Brazilian, but far from the traditional stereotypes of this culture. Find the right balance between lightness and strongness was the most difficult part of the process.
