DESIGN NAME: Ponto
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair
INSPIRATION: The motivation was to have a simple and elegant product, while small and versatile to get into any space or decor. The language should be contemporary and universal, the use of wood turned and leather, refers us to brazilian modernism, and the minimal of the piece does not refer to the concept of scandinavian simplicity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The piece has a simple language, executed with few elements, a single elongated line and curves structure the seat, the arms and the backrest. At the point of fitting of turned parts can mix types and colors of wood, giving a unique effect to the whole. The seat and backrest are upholstered, the anotomic and organic form of the seat offer a user comfort. The wooden structure was reinforced with a metal tubular core.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Ponto line is composed of a family of seats, will meet all the seating needs, simply and small, the seat being rounded and having narrow sides offers a large internal space, something that can only be perceived by sitting, thus, as the comfort that provides the anatomical seat.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in july 2018 and finished february 2019, was exhibited in 35 Paralela Fair in São Paulo, SP, Brazil

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The execution of the product is due to the union of technology of a machining center of 6 axes with the use of handcrafted processes. The entire external structure was made of solid wood turned, it took an internal reinforcement in metal to give resistance to part of the arm, and to the assembly, the structure that supports the seat is a metallic X shaped tubular structure, the arms were initially made by hand, around manual and later the drawing passed to the program, being executed by the machining center.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The seemingly simple design contained a huge challenge, to make two big lines hold the whole set, to have a part that followed and turned an arm to support the user, it took some prototypes and tests of resistance, the first arms broke when subjected to weight that an adult human being applies to the sitting and lifting of the chair, then it was necessary to structure with a metal soul internally, but that alone was not sufficient, we had to study how much it should enter and what angle necessary for the solution to work.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was to be so simple as to stand, was to be different from the products known in the market, without being pretentious, have personality and functionality, small and light, despite being in solid wood, to run we use a wood called Tauari, light although tough, has light color and allows for dyeing.
