| DESIGN NAME: Fuga PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench Product Family INSPIRATION: Due to the large volume of urban furniture products, their transportation is very difficult. In addition, different semi-finished parts are required for each urban furniture product. Using the same parts for different products is the basic concept of this project. Modular product concept with the same semi-finished parts with different functions and configurations can be made to the product is the main inspiration of this project. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fuga is a modular bank product family. On the bench, which is the main product, it is possible to add other parts which are easily added at any time. In this way, the product can be transformed into a bench with backrest or bench with table. The user can purchase additional parts at any time and assemble it to main part. Thus, the product can be transformed into function enhanced benches. However, leg of the Fuga design allows the product to be offered in different configurations OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After the product is unpacked, it is assembled together with a small number of bolts. Wooden pieces are placed between two different metal parts. Then the metals are assembled together. In this way, the foot of the product is created. The wooden part acts as a pressure absorbing seal. Then the wood on the seating surface is connected and the product is ready for use. The products can be mounted on the floor due to their secret details. Metal edges on the side of the product are prevented from damaging the edges of the product. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is designed and prototyped in Konya/TURKEY in 2019. Registration of design in Turkey is a still ongoing process. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The production of the Fuga is started by cutting and sizing the sheet materials with the laser machine. The cutting parts are bent by linear bending machine and finalized. The product is then painted with electrostatic powder paint and ready for packaging. On the seating surfaces of the products, as an option, accoya wood is used. Each product consists of a certain number of identical pieces, so there are very few semi-products of the products. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The metal parts of the products can only be formed by laser cutting and can be produced by bending without mold. The seat height of the product is 450 mm. The resting depth of the product is 470 mm. The length of the product can be made in any size according to the length of the wood material used. TAGS: Fuga, urban furniture, bench, modular RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Firstly, urban furniture design criteria are examined. After that, it was investigated what kind of difficulties the producers have. Design problems such as production and transportation difficulties have been identified and research and developments have been made on these issues. The project was then supported by user research. Prototypes of the designs made through the results are made. The product was then developed through prototypes. CHALLENGE: The main aim of the project is to make aesthetic and durable products with fewer production steps. At the same time, it is planned to reduce the workload of the manufacturer with standardized semi finished products. With modular system, products can be upgraded if desired. In addition, it is aimed to present an aesthetic solution in the space with the visual integrity of these products to be used in urban spaces. The most compelling part of this project is to solve all these demands together in a single design project.
