| DESIGN NAME: Unconventional Chic PRIMARY FUNCTION: Footwear INSPIRATION: A collection designed for real women, making them feel vibrant, feminine, and self-assured. Drawing inspiration from a reinterpretation of an architectural object. Unconventional Chic is about new, provocative and futuristic designs with gold geometric details and funky items. It’s about imperfection and power of self-expression without boundaries. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project stemmed from a need to design powerful and outstanding high heels for real women, which would fit different bodies and personalities, while fulfilling the needs of women with wider feet and for sizes ranging from 36 to 45, but still reflecting a unique and special taste. While experimenting with new material, gold-bronze brass to achieve a futuristic geometrical design. It demonstrates the possibilities of a new shaping process in the spirit of body positivity and sustainability. Because everyone should discover and celebrate their own body. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The primary focus in the design of these shoes was the application of outstanding industrial designs to create a shoe that catered to all women's body types, concentrating on women with wide feet in particular. Constructing what appears to be an architectural object, with its bronze brass, gave the designer room to play with technical details such as the small V-shape at the front, which provides a more comfortable fit, especially for women with a wider foot PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The designer began the project in September 2018 and finished it within two weeks, while simultaneuously starting their own shoe brand. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Gold-bronze brass, Italian cowhide leather, bronze-coloured lambskin lining, and 100 mm stiletto heel were used together with technologies from traditional shoe manufacturing, to make a geometrical design, thus broadening the scope of possibilities, adding new raw materials and making futuristic designs. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Unconventional Chic shoes are a European size 41/42. With a heel size of 100mm. TAGS: Unconventional Chic, fashion, art, design, outstanding, imperfection, high heels, shoes, leather, futuristic, desire, body positivity RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The initial concept emerged from a concern over a lack of a shoe brands that offer new and provocative designs, as well as a matching shoe shapes for the wider foot. The designer studied specific groups of women and realised the need for a powerful and unique pair of heels, which also fit well on the foot. Fashion shoes are often narrow and at times difficult to get into, not to mention uncomfortable when worn all day! This led the designer to incorporate a V-shape on the front of the open shoe, allowing women to walk with more comfort and with a spring in their step. In the today’s market, high heels are either gorgeous but small, or comfortable but not fashionable. The women the designer focused on for are unconventional, unique, powerful, self-assured, creative, and yet imperfect but beautiful! By exploring this particular group of women, the designer created a series of outstanding pieces of work, which are comfortable and paying attention to their feelings. The designer believes that with their high heels, they can turn women’s routine days into runway adventures! CHALLENGE: The main challenge is how to turn the design into reality. How to make and join all the geometrical details in the right place with the stripes and to treat that details on the shoe, keep it stable and while being able to walk freely. Furthermore, the shoe has to look good from every angle, be light and easy to put on. The attachment method of the shoe transform it from a conventional high heel to a piece of architectural art on your foot!
