This work centers on the relationship between bridge structure, construction methods and timberwork, coming from the processes of design and manufacturing. In this thesis, I intend to discover and develop different characteristics of different structures and materials and create works that are visually powerful.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The bridge DNA chair designed it based on people’s needs. cutting the back and the bottom of the seat surface into a cambered surface, and designed a downward bending at the seat and back to make it comfortable for sitting. For the round connecting plate, Maple as my material so that the overall structure became the visual focus.
The bridge DNA table. Flat plywood for both tabletop and box itself. The pattern of plywood overlapping conformed to structural design visually. In the principle of wood, the problems arising from wood extension caused by climate change can be avoided. Show the strength and beauty of the structure from the whole form, so Designed a big table composed of several large triangles. Then used the triangular structure as support on each plane. Designed a tetrahedral box with penetrability so the structure behind the box can be seen. I also installed a stop at the bottom of the internal box to prevent CDs from dropping out, and used the same plywood material and structure for one of the corners of the table so that the user won’t be affected by the structure of the triangle.
In this design, Succeeded in putting ideas into practice conceptually and practically. Complex structures can show the power of structure. Visually, it can show the uniqueness of the concept and it is light and firm at the same.
