DESIGN NAME: Luneng Grasse Villa
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Villa
INSPIRATION: Dream of the Red Chamber well described how the traditional Chinese mansions look like. However, when it comes to interior design in oriental world, people pay more attention to the sentiment of space and living utensils instead of the visual expression. Ballad, Court Hymn, and Eulogy, from The Book of Odes and Hymns, conveys the genre of Chinese poetry, revealing status of ancient life. We take them as a fundamental concept, which are the representative manners of the Chinese.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Grasse is not a shell for living, but a mansion with culture.
It's a project to exhibit both the contemporary and luxurious life in China, which combines traditional and technical living style. Instead of separating different spaces by walls or bricks, spacious and open planning makes Grasse Villa a grand comfortable mansion.
Diversity and the exchange of various cultures reveal in this project as well through selection of aristocratic furnishing and antique.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Each functional space was normally separated by bricks and walls. However, no matter how big the house was, the intervals made it look small. We broke the walls but still remained function for each space, making it look spacious and open like the real mansion.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in April 2017 and finished in September 2018 in Beijing, China.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

Ceiling of the entry hall were made of gold mosaic tiles, and the floor height was 10 meters. There were many high-ceiling trimmed in multi levels in living rooms.

CHALLENGE: The grand villa basically built in Art-Deco style, which was obviously thinking from the West. However, our client gave us the mission to make it fit into Chinese people. The exterior of the architecture can't be altered, so we paid attention on interior design to meet our client's requirements and remained them harmonious.
