DESIGN NAME: One Hundred Restooms
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Public Restrooms
INSPIRATION: The concept of One hundred restrooms is grounded in the paradigm shift in the area of health and well-being. With this new concept we want to change the definition of a toilet break.
We believe the restroom of the future is a place, a sanctuary, build around the principles of health
and well-being. A place to relieve, refresh and reload.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The One Hundred Restrooms experience goes beyond clean toilets in high traffic areas, as it combines cutting-edge technology, design and service to create moments for better well-being. The logo combines the number one with an abstract representation of an exit on a highway. The interior design evokes a zen feeling thanks to the curved shapes, wood textures, vertical garden and indirect lighting.
The transition zone with the steam experience functions as a crossing-over to a space where visitors can leave their busy lives behind and enter a space for relaxation.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In addition to permanent focus on cleanliness, the facilities, of 130 m2, are fully equipped with
cutting-edge technology , have a self-check room , a shower room, a steam experience , an
hydration station, two female beauty-bars, a male grooming station, a spacious disabled
room, and a family room with a Roca In-Wash toilet for adults, one for children and a changing
table for babies. The space dedicated to women, 30m2, has three toilets and two beauty-bars;
and the space for men, 25m2, has two toilets, two urinals and a grooming station.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first location for One Hundred Restrooms was opened in October 2018 in Shopping center La Vaguada in Madrid , Spain

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It was crucial for us to experience a zen/ natural feeling. That's why we had to guard the balance between cold technologies and warm natural materials.
The vertical garden, with real plants, creates a sensation of being outdoors. The walls, of wood texture, combined
with the soft and indirect lighting, the ambient aroma, nature sounds and lounge music, provide a sensation of relaxation and calmness.
One Hundred restrooms uses the latest no-touch technology that includes: Roca flush toilets, Tork contactless soap
dispensers, Roca contactless faucets, and a no-touch lighting experience. This cutting-edge technology is essential
for the sustainable use of the facilities and contributes to a clean and hygienic experience.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Since the founders work already a long time in the toilet industry they provided us with a huge load of information on the necessities and expectations of a toilets visit based on reviews and interviews. This was the perfect starting point to make sure we surpassed these expectations.
CHALLENGE: Public toilets in Europe have quite a bad image. Even for our design team it took some time to see the endless possibilities to make a toilet break inspirational. Matching the zen feeling with the use of great technologies : non touch / smart mirrors / projections and screens was a huge challenge.
