INSPIRATION: The drone competition has formed a trend in recent years.Generally, the operator holds the remote controller, and the remote drone controls its posture to complete various actions. Affordable FPV Goggles have appeared within the last decade. FPV Goggles flying is a rapidly growing trend in various RC hobbies, and for good reasons; it takes the beauty and energy of flying, driving and piloting a boat, and packages itself in a relatively safe and less costly package. For many people, this is the dawn of flying RC models.
FPV Goggles can control the drone racing from the first angle of view, so that the players can experience all kind of flying situations and its picture in picture function gives players more immersive and realistic experiences. Inspired by “Roaring Fire”, the FPV Goggles design “Helios-X” for the exterior design highlights its aggressiveness in shape, light effects and gives players a psychological advantage in the competition.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: At present, the FPV on the market needs to remove the entire lens when replacing the batter, which is inconvenient. We came up with a wonderful design for Helios-X to deal with the inconvenience. The Helios-X is designed to use magnetic and shackle design to separate the main body of the lens from the wearing face mask. The main body of the product can be removed without removing the cover. The mask could be painted all kinds of graphics or stickers. The image transmission data interface is compatible with the mainstream wireless image transmission module of the market, providing different choices for players at various stages.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1.In addition to the more convenient battery replacement method than the same type, Helios-X is also very friendly to myopia patients, no need to wear eye or custom mirror, the product itself can be manually adjusted by the player according to their own conditions.
2.Excellent ventilation system for the glasses, no fog due to temperature changes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in Shenzhen in April 2018 and finished in January 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Helios-X, the outer casing is injection molded. except that the surface of the side module cover is vacuum plated, and the rest of the surface texture and high-gloss effect are integrally formed in the mold without further post-processing. In order to get better user experiences (hand feeling and abrasion resistance), the surface of the button is aluminum alloy and treated by sandblasting oxidation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: Since the product is suitable for competition and is worn on the head, the weight and portability of the product are the key points and difficulties in the design process. Design a universal connector: We designed a universal connector and cover to adapt to several Analog Plus Modules for different level of players.
Suitable & portable design: This product focuses on gaming and drone racing competitions, so “suitable” and “portable” is the first design priority that the designer has to take care of. The player has to wear this goggle about 30 minutes or longer. We have made a lot of FPV goggles prototypes and invited players to join the testing.
