DESIGN NAME: Rotary Station
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rotary Laser
INSPIRATION: When you are on a job, one of the greatest losses of time and money is when a tool breaks and you have to wait to have it repaired. Nothing hurts productivity like going on a site in the morning and setting your instrument up, only to have it tip over and break before you’ve even started working. You’ve now lost half of your workday as your crew watches you drive away to the repair shop.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Rotary Station solves the problem of equipment breakage crippling production. The Rotary Station has a circular roll cage made of panels to increase durability during drops. The individual points that connect the shell to the core are also designed to break in extreme impacts. The core remains functional, so your work can continue and make repairs once the job is done. Reinstalling the panels is an easy process that can be done yourself, eliminating additional down time on the jobsite.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Our Rotary Station is all about efficiency. Instead of a case, the core has built-in storage for your detectors, remote, and other accessories, saving you space on your job site and protecting these devices even if the outer shell has been damaged. The Rotary Station also can measure distances with our detector, allowing you to shoot distance for a job and save the hundreds of dollars it would cost to hire a surveyor or buying / learning to use a complex instrument such as a Total Station.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of the greatest losses of time and money is when a tool breaks and you have to wait to have it repaired. Nothing hurts productivity like going on a site in the morning, setting your instrument up and getting ready to work only to have it tip over and break. You’ve now lost half of your day’s work as your crew watches you drive away to the repair shop. We built our Rotary Station with this in mind. With a circular roll cage made up of panels that increase durability during a drop. The individual points that connect to the inner core are also designed to break in the case of extreme impact.
This Rotary Station is all about efficiency. Instead of being stored in a bulky case, it has built-in storage for your detector, remote and other accessories, saving you space on the job site. The Rotary Station also contain our patented dimensionality platform which enables it to read distances when paired with our detector. By making it easy for you to measure distances for a job the Rotary Station saves you the $1,000 it would have cost to either have someone come out for the service or to buy and learn how to use a complex Total Station.
CHALLENGE: We wanted to make an all in one Rotary Laser capable of distance measurement and be a self contained storage unit that was able to “roll with the punches.” Building the Rotary Station with a roll cage design started to solve this problem but we took it further by designing panels that are easily replaceable saving time of repair and keeping the unit running. Also being the first rotary to include distance measurement met us with many technical challenges.
