DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Task Tray

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ergonomic Workstation

INSPIRATION:
Like our award winning Chotto, the Task Tray is designed to enhance productivity by providing a variety of ergonomically desirable positions that prioritize the user's physical and mental wellbeing. The Task Tray excels as a portable workstation by providing each user the ergonomic freedom to determine where, when and most importantly, how they want to work.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Task Tray is a portable workstation that can be adjusted to allow work materials or digital devices to transition with the body through a wide range of ergonomically desirable positions. It can reduce internal stress and muscle fatigue while enhancing circulation within the body by accommodating any standing, sitting, reclining, recumbent or horizontal posture. On-demand and self-locking adjustability allows the work surface to be incrementally positioned within the Task Tray's wide, 150 degree, range of motion.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Task Tray can be moved or repositioned by engaging each of the side handgrips and activating each side mounted, quick-release and self-locking mechanisms just below each handgrip. Once the tabs are pressed inward, the work surface is unlocked and can be rotated to any of the 11 unique self-locking positions within the Task Tray's 150 degree range of motion.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Conceptual development and prototyping for the Task Tray began in mid 2017 (NYC). Initial working prototypes were realized in the spring of 2018 (NYC). Final revisions and development/integration of the custom wall-mounted docking/charging station were realized in early 2019 (FL).

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The Task Tray is essentially a second generation adaptation of the portable work surface that was developed for the Chotto. In addition to providing an ergonomically ideal rotational work surface, the Task Tray incorporates side supports with quick-release self-locking mechanisms and a wide 150 degree range of motion which allow the Task Tray to function on any horizontal or vertical surface. Materials: Aluminum: Laser Cut, Formed & Powder Coated, Wood: Walnut, Cherry, Maple

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
13" x 15" x 26"

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Several locking mechanism that could regulate the rotational adjustments of the work surface were considered prior to realizing the final working prototypes. Proportions and a rotational range of motion that could best accommodate multiple ergonomic goals involving standing, sitting, reclining, recumbent and horizontal postures were formalized within the final iteration by expanding the original 90 degree rotational range of motion to 150 degrees.

CHALLENGE:
The creative challenge of developing a single product that can achieve such a wide range of ergonomic functionality within a simple and elegant solution was as considerable as it was rewarding. Culturally, the design and functionality of the Task Tray also resonates well within the future of work trends by providing ergonomic options that enhance productivity by prioritizing the health and wellbeing of the worker.
