| DESIGN NAME: City PRIMARY FUNCTION: Urban Furniture Product Family INSPIRATION: Due to the large volume, urban furniture transportation is very difficult. Also, it was forcing the manufacturers in the production and stocking of semi-finished products in products produced in different parts. Nevertheless, it would be more advantageous to produce products with simple production methods and fewer production steps. These issues are the main inspiration for this design. The combination of identical product parts that can be intertwined is the basic concept of this project. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: City is an urban furniture product family that can respond to all needs at the same time. It contributes greatly to visual integrity in the places where it is used. All the products are formed by the assembly of the same piece in different quantities. Thus, products can be made with a single piece and this provides both transportation and production advantages. The metal parts of the products can only be formed by laser cutting and can be produced by bending without mold. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After the product is removed from the package, it is assembled together with a small number of bolts. The product is then ready for use. The bench and flower bed and large trash can complete each other. At the same time, trash cans can create different configurations of different numbers among themselves. Thanks to the details of the products can be installed on the floor. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is designed and prototyped in Konya/TURKEY in 2019. Registration of design in Turkey is a still ongoing process. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The production of the City is started by cutting and sizing the sheet materials with the laser machine. The cutting parts are bent by linear bending machine and finalized. The product is then painted with electrostatic powder paint and ready for packaging. On the seating surfaces of the products, as an option, accoya wood is used. Each product consists of a certain number of identical pieces, so there are very few semi-products of the products. After that, it was investigated what kind of difficulties the producers have. Design problems such as production and transportation difficulties have been identified and research and developments have been made on these issues. The project was then supported by user research. Prototypes of the designs made through the results are made. The product was then developed through prototypes. CHALLENGE: The main aim of the project is to make aesthetic and durable products with fewer production steps. At the same time, it is planned to reduce the workload of the manufacturer with standardized semi-finished products. In addition, it is aimed to present an aesthetic solution in the space with the visual integrity of these products to be used in urban spaces. The most compelling part of this project is to solve all these demands together in a single design project.
