| DESIGN NAME: Inside II PRIMARY FUNCTION: Built-In Range Hood INSPIRATION: Current kitchen trends focused on less friction and ornament in purely functional areas, supported by urban life-style choices and architecture style. From this point forth, a range hood integrated in to the handleless kitchen cabinets is essential need. The idea behind this design is finding purely functional, simple solution, which can be blend into the kitchen and be invisible. All design elements of the design focus to improve ease-of-use and the philosophy of simplicity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inside II is a design solution in built-in cooker hood range, integrated in to the handleless kitchen cabinets. The main goal of the design is providing ease of use and simplicity to its user. Defined and protected area for touch control panel or the angled front surface are the examples of the results of this user-centric design approach for comfortable user experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user can easily control the built-in hood from the touch buttons on the angled surface of the product without opening the cabinet lid. The space between the control unit and cabinet lid is well-adjusted to provide the comfortable use. Additionally the frosted glass-lid can be adjusted freely to preserve the cabinet from the cooking vapour. Aluminium and carbon filters are enhances the flexibility of replacement and rearrangement. High efficiency motors reduce energy losses through improved design and better materials, providing 630m3 air extraction capacity. They also have higher service factors, longer bearing life and less vibration. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2018 in Istanbul and finished in September 2018 in Merzifon, and was exhibited in IMM Cologne January 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Brushed stainless steel main body, which holds the A class-energy motor, is manufactured by metal sheet bending machine. Light diffusing PC material covers the control panel and frosted glass cover is tempered glass. The whole body can be also covered with powder coating to exceed the specified finish requirements for domestic appliances and provide colours such as mate black. The user-related analysis led us to focus more on user journey mapping and benchmarking of kitchen manufacturers, which provides meaningful data for ideation phase. The design elements, such as the space between angled surface of the product and cabinet lid, the position of the control panel, seamless control panel as same level as the stainless steel surface, and the frosted glass lid, created to solve the functional problems that can be faced while using handleless kitchen cabinets. As a result, the user focused analysis of the kitchen trends shaped the product anatomy and its’ elements for ease of use. CHALLENGE: The challenge of the design project gathered around the cost-effectiveness. For this reason, a mutual collaboration between the RnD and Industrial Design department is settled from the early beginning of the project. This resulted as purely functional and cost-effective solutions of the Inside II built-in range hood.
