Bird’s Nest Radiant White

INSPIRATION:
As the bird nest is a renowned traditional ingredient in China, the design is required to present tradition in a contemporary way. In Chinese culture, the healthy whitening appearance should be white touched with red, so that the main colour is determined as pink. For presentation, paper-art is a traditional handcraft art, but it is still a fashionable way for advertising etc. Meanwhile, one of the most popular techniques in contemporary graphics is geometry with shadows to simulate 3D art.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The iconic recognition of natural bird nest is the typical advertising in linear arrangement and to present its leaf-shape structure. Thus, the bird nest is presented in an abstract way, as the leaves arraying vertically. The leaves overlapped partially with shadow underneath, in order to emphasise the sense of 3D structure. The background is bedding with paper-art flowers in white, corresponding the auxiliary ingredients, which also enhance the layering.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The leaves correspond the Bird Nest, which array vertically and face different directions. The colour turns redder on the leaves more downward; it represents the effect the product helps users appearing as blushed from the deep. Meanwhile, the pistil of each paper flower is located at the intersection between the leaves. The position of each flower is different on both sides. It seems they are moving with different tempo, that emphasise the imitation as 3D arts.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in October 2018 in Shenzhen and finished in February 2019 in Shenzhen.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
To simulate the texture of nature bird nest, the outer package is stamped with leaf-pattern. Meanwhile, to break the feeling of monotone, the leaves are all in pink with different pantone numbers in the original design version. To overcome the problems on printing, only 4 different pantone colours are used, but in different percentage.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This packaging design uses to replace the old product line, Bird's Nest Classic. The target customer would be female young collars between 25-35 years old. They are usually independent assertive and trendy.

CHALLENGE:
As bird nest is a renowned traditional ingredient in Chinese culture, it is easily given out an image that the ingredient is old-fashioned. Thus, the main challenge is to present such Chinese tradition ingredient in a contemporary way. In the meantime, there are 5 different kinds of white flower act as auxiliary ingredients. Hence the amount of information presented on the outer packaging will affect the composition.
