RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Kite Music Stand is an unique design combining the magnetic balls and the surface of the stand top in which the balls could move to any locations on the surface effortlessly to hold music sheets or books of any sizes. The idea is to create a new form of music stand that is more flexible when accepting different sheets but also outstanding as a piece of furniture.
CHALLENGE: Music stand is rarely the topic being explored in the furniture world. I learned from my previous experience that the existing music stands are either not flexible enough to take all kinds of music sheets or designed as a piece of decorative furniture, but musicians deserve something better.
The challeng
es of the design are in finding the right materials and how to maximize the angles of the placement. With magnets, the challenges have been resolved: it is free to be placed on any locations and it has the right power of force to hold the music sheets.
