DESIGN NAME: Hanuri
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Korean Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The design base is a space incorporating elements of private homes in East Asia, such as Korea and Japan.
The whole design composition maintains balance by combining curves into the extended linear space with many hanging pendant lightings.
Also, reds, blues, and greens are intentionally blended to the design, inspired by traditional Korean costumes.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main feature of the design is the scenery of the office building streets captured through the sash on the entire wall.
The restaurant has private rooms, counters, sofas, and booths partitioned by low dividers.
Each element is left open toward the sash in a way to secure the perfect command of the night scene.
Furniture, such as sofa and partitions, and walls are set as low as possible to eliminate the feel of a low ceiling and ensure the sense of unlimited space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We did not erect a high wall on the window side but designed to set up a counter and a low sofa so that visitors could admire a panoramic night view.
We devised the storage furniture, central bench, and ceiling decorations in modern yet straightforward designs that are commonplace in East Asian architecture.
Brilliant color pendant lightings hang unceremoniously in the center of the store.
Red, blue, and green pendant lightings hatched from the bright colors of Hanbok.
The pendant lightings bear colors in a way the upper end of the glass becomes transparent to blend into the surroundings.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The restaurant is located in Shimbashi, Tokyo,Japan.
