DESIGN NAME: Visang Literature TextBook
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Textbook
INSPIRATION: A story, which can identify with students with higher stands that are sensitive to trend, was designed. The characteristics of subject - literature being read in a fishbowl filled with stars, reading enjoying swimming in books, language and media communicating through various media, and speech and composition of sincerity in mailbox, in a single story. A unity of design was intended through sensational colors and layout matching the illustration and typography that marks the subject.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A unique cover design that was never seen in existing textbooks were presented to deliver the experience of textbook being a sensitive collection of essays, not a studying tool. For a cover that represent students’ emotions and students want to keep, embraced the subject messages in a webtoon-like illustration.
The four books have the consistency of design, but they include the subject's story on the cover so that they can learn the subject in advance.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Various post-processing methods were applied to the cover than previous books to allow users to feel the new changes. Also, the coating method was changed to minimize damage during use.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in March 2018 and completed in July 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For a reasonable textbook cost, unnecessary end paper was removed to reduce cost, and 75g Eco-friendly recycled paper was used for the body. Cover used spot color, colored foil and epoxy to express the design more effectively, and was finished with matte coating with less scratches for luxurious finish.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Based on different searches and surveys on students’ interest, they are extremely excited over online Webtoons. Focused on the process to embrace the story connotatively in Webtoon style, and a new kind of cover design was finished, which has become a sensation. The user’s emotions and series marketing intentions hit the mark, leading us to a dominant position for next adoption market.
CHALLENGE: The stereotype of textbook cover is the most difficult. The general idea is that it has to be serious as a textbook and display the subject. Especially, conservative writers or editors are more determined than anyone else. To persuade the validity of our plan, performed a preference survey in different kinds of designs, and final users proved the need for a new change. A change in textbook design was achieved through an attempt that is differentiated from existing textbooks.
