DESIGN NAME: Concrete House
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The space designed reflects the personality of the owner which is of being warm and simple. Thus the intention was to create a home with simplicity and comfort as the key elements. The spacial organization, interplay of volumes and materials along with elements of transperancy and geometry attempt to create a comfortable space for the family.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This residence is designed for a couple and their parents along with two of their children. Volumetric arrangement, openness and transparency bind all spaces together. Vegetation in the interiors, gardens, design of a water body and letting in filtered light through huge openings helps one connect to nature.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Entering the house, one is welcomed by the double height living room space. The filtered sunlight penetrating through the fins make the space warm and welcoming. The vegetation and view of the lotus pond through the huge glass windows erase the line of the built and unbuilt, thus bringing in nature. The kitchen at the east further leads one to an outdoor dining area with vertical vegetation at the backdrop. All rooms are situated on the first floor with huge separate balconies. The interiors are kept white and simple with a splash of colour and use of textures at few places bringing in drama to the space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in June 2018 and expected to complete in nov.2019. Pune, India.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material pallete used has a varied range like exposed concrete, wood, local stone which compliment each other and bring together the exterior making it aesthetically pleasing to the human eye. Straight lines and geometry make the exterior look crisp and clean. Use of exposed concrete and brick add a layer of texture making the elevation look more appealing. Shading devices like vertical louvers, pergolas and overhangs, volumetric arrangement of spaces and orientation helps to reduce the energy load of the residence.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 450 sq.mt. Including ground floor and first floor.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The objective was to design a house warm and comfortable for all users, yet open it to nature that is the trees or environment surrounding it. By researching on materials a nice mixture of concrete, bricks, stone, wood, glass was used giving a contemporary look to the house yet making it cozy and comfortable.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to build with minimum intervention to the natural ecostytem of the site. The vegetation on the site was kept undistured. Building materials that were close to the vicinity of the site were used.
