| DESIGN NAME: BRUK Armchair PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: The Black Owl craft furniture collection is inspired by the breath-taking beauty of Belarus’s landscapes. All pieces are based on original ideas and are made to reflect the artistic touch of the designer. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We believe that the BRUK armchair is both highly functional and unique. Felt-making is not widely used nowadays, and we decided to display the beauty of this underrated material. It is important to note that felt is processed by hand using a traditional technique that requires no seams. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Following slow design principles, Black Owl consumes lumber in an environmentally friendly way and produces furniture that will last a lifetime, thanks in part to durable steel. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The armchair was produced in the summer of 2018 in Minsk, Belarus. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Steel, wool felt SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 740 x 560 x 780 TAGS: armchair, wool felt, steel RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main idea of this design is to promote felt-making. We aimed to restore a traditional technique that requires no seams. In our opinion, felt is one of the most underrated materials nowadays. The felt for the BRUK armchair is made of organic wool from Belarussian sheep that are not exposed to chemicals and are kept in high standard farm conditions. CHALLENGE: The most interesting part was the interaction with the felt artist Anastasia Arais who has completed her job perfectly. NAME: Black Owl PROFILE: Black Owl was founded in 2017 by Andrei Reshetin, who decided to incorporate his passion for design into his professional life. After a decade of success in the tech world, co-founding and leading an international software development company, he transitioned to designing craft furniture at age 42. An avid lover of nature, Andrei lives in the countryside, and the surrounding landscapes serve as inspiration for Black Owl. |
