DESIGN NAME: Anna House - Listed Private Home
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Private Residence
INSPIRATION: The design was inspired by the challenge to combine the strict historic features of the original building and the modern day to day needs of a family. All the new design elements and materials are carefully chosen to create the marriage between old and new.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a 2 storey listed house in the centre of Limassol which has been transformed into a luxurious family home for a young couple and their children. The contemporary transformation has all living spaces on the ground floor which are arranged around a central courtyard pool area. The use of such modern interventions allows the interior to merge with the exterior through a series of large glazed openings. The exterior of the house has been restored to its original features with modern touches.

The same process was applied to the exterior of the house, with the replacement and restoration of all the original stone cornices and balcony architraves.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Approximate internal area of 520m² over two floors
TAGS: restoration, interior design, architecture, listed buildings
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There was extensive research carried out on the existing history of the property and its original architectural features.
In addition, during the early months of construction, we had uncovered the footprint of another (more historic) house which was carefully restored and maid into a feature in the main living room and dining room areas, covering the timber floor with glass vitrines.
CHALLENGE: The hardest design challenge was to develop an ''anti vandal'' paint fotr the exterior of the house. Being in a busy part of Limassol Old town the exterior house is constantly exposed to all sorts of vandalism. The paint and the stonework have a vandal proof finish developed by us during the design testing stage which allows chemical paints such as spray paint to be easily removed with just the application of a sponge and water.

The practice was founded by Vakis Hadjikyriacou in 1983 and has established itself as one of Cyprus` foremost architectural firms. We are currently engaged in a broad range of projects from residential and office developments to civic buildings, hotels and interiors. Our design team of architects, civil engineers. interior and product designers has a wide range of talent and professional experience in designing and supervising advanced and well crafted complex buildings. Our work ranges in scale from interiors and small buildings to large scale architectural projects as well as urban masterplanning. Regardless of the size, context or scope, we approach each project as a unique challenge and an exciting opportunity to develop a dynamic and efficient design response. We are committed to creating buildings which influence the quality of lives while at the same time we make every effort to ensure that our buildings are sustainable, financially viable, create value, minimise environmental impact and optimise energy efficiency. An appreciation of place is also essential to our working process; we never resort to a fixed architectural language, but work in response to the particularities. We use sketches, models and 3 dimensional digital tools to explore and refine our designs, translating our schemes into reality by drawing on an exceptional network of knowledge and experience that embraces every aspect of a building`s design, construction and performance. Our drive to create energy-efficient buildings does not prioritise novelty over performance and we are always open to using traditional technologies, local materials, expertise and the available industry in order to provide the best solution to our clients. Above all, we believe that environmental awareness is not a limitation to architectural potential, but an exciting challenge to produce a new generation of dynamic and environmentally responsible buildings. Our buildings are based on human, ethical and cultural parameters and we ensure that they are made out of the best available materials
