| DESIGN NAME: Nightingale PRIMARY FUNCTION: Headphone Packaging INSPIRATION: My father. A nature lover and unbeatable expert when it comes to birds. He passed on me his passion and taught me respect for nature and the planet. Today, as designers it is essential to integrate the environmental issue into our creative and thinking process. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This packaging has been designed both to reflect the nightingale bird, known for it’s powerful song, and to reflect it’s nest. Today, we face huge problems with wasteful and unnecessary packaging. Made exclusively with natural products to minimize the waste and directly inspired from their actual habitat, the idea was not only to be ecologically less impactful but to actually give back to nature. Instead of throwing away the packaging after unboxing, the user can simply hang it up on a tree! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: My goal with this project was to create an eco-friendly packaging for headphone. I first created the name and the logo of the brand. Nightingale is a little bird, best known for its powerful and beautiful song. Then I imagined a boxe exclusively made of natural products that you can easily turn into real nest boxes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Belgium 2016. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: My goal with this project was not only to design it but also to built it myself. The design of the box has to combine both space for the headphone and adequate dimension for a nest box. Mostly made of wood, the main challenge was to nicely bend the roof, which I managed to do with the use of a thermal cleaner. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 190 mm x 100 mm x 24 wm TAGS: eco-friendly, packaging, circular economy, sustainable, wood, birds, nest, nature RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: I didn't want to create a nice creative concept, I wanted to make it real and realistic. So I challenged myself to design it in a way I could entirely build it. At first I didn't know if I would be able to do it or not, but it's especially because I didn't know that I did it.
