| DESIGN NAME: Umbrella PRIMARY FUNCTION: Considerate Bowl INSPIRATION: There are many bowls in every family, bowls are the necessities of our life. During a meal, I habitually picked up the bowl and found that the traditional way of bowl-holding always let our thumbs touch the food in the bowl, which greatly affected my appetite and health. So I'm going to solve this problem. If we can't avoid the thumb touching the bowl mouth in the process of using the bowl, then we can give the thumb a new edge which is not in contact with food.Through this way, we can enjoy a more healthier life. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This kind of ceramic bowl is designed to change our traditional habit of holding bowls. In the past, fingers always touched the mouth of the bowl when eating, which is unclean. The waist of the bowl has a beautiful edge, which looks like a flying skirt around it. This change can provide a new way for people to hold bowls. The waist edge of the bowl is concave , which can provide a buffer to keep the soup on the eaves and keep the table clean. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Umbrella is a kind of considerate bowl that can bring the user a brand new experience and a healthy lifestyle.In the traditional way of holding the bowl, people's thumbs always keep the edge of the bowl closed, which makes it easy for the thumb to touch the food and pollute the food.Umbrella's key design point is the new edge of the waist, which can replace the previous edge of the bowl.People can touch it with their thumb to carry the bowl, so that they can avoid getting the food dirty.And the edge of this new bowl is a groove, it can accept the juice of overflow, avoid contamination of tablecloth of bowl bottom. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2017 in Jing Dezhen and finished in September 2018 in Jing Dezhen. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This bowl is made of ceramics. There are two ways to made it. One is throwing and the other is moulding. The former is suitable for a small amount of production, while the latter is suitable for mass market production.Misty blue glaze is covered on the bowl, which makes it looks more elegant. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The size of this bowl is 120mmx 63mmx 70mm. TAGS: healthy, considerate, clean, graceful RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The way of life of mankind is following traditional understanding way, the use of tableware also is this kind of circumstance.Now, human life is facing a new revolution.The use of tableware also needs a new change, this is a worth studying topic.Starting from the simplest way to use the bowl, we found that people in different regions have two common pain points through the survey of the way they use the bowl. The first one is that the thumb always touches the mouth of the bowl, and most of the time it touches the food.The second point is that the tablecloth will always be contaminated by spilled soup. CHALLENGE: Umbrella is ceramic material, which needs high temperature firing and forming.It has a difficult problem in the forming process, that is, the firing process is easy to deform.Because the edge that adds in bowl waist place is can increase the weight of the waist.Waist collapse occurs when the blank is placed in a kiln during firing.This can be solved by increasing the thickness of the bowl wall to support the weight of the waist.
