| DESIGN NAME: Pole Saw PRIMARY FUNCTION: Protecting Falling Dust INSPIRATION: Garden tools are widely using now, and there has a kind of different categories. Pole saw is used to cut the high branches, therefore people has no need to cut branches in the high altitude. However, the research finding is that there still exist some problems. First of all, the falling sawdust always troubles the user when cutting. In addition, due to the heavy weight, people will feel tried when holding the pole saw for a long time. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A transparent umbrella-shape cover was designed to help protecting people when they are cutting the branches. In addition, there is an extra movable ball at the bottom of the pole saw to help people move this tool from their home to the workplace or from one work place to another one. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The part to open the cover is clearly highlighted with bright colors like yellow or green. It is easy for the user to open it just by pushing it upwards and fixing it. To move the pole saw, it is quite straight forward. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in August 2018 in Ningbo China. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The saw chain and the guide bar should use the standard parts. Then, the scabbard, the shell of motor, oil cap, knobs, handle, trigger, and the trigger lockout could use ABS as preconceived. Besides, the outer and inner poles should use the fiberglass pipes cause its appropriate performance. In addition, the transparent sawdust baffle could use the PVC as a transparent material. The antiskid parts should be used as encapsulation. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Adjustable Height from 1.9m to 2.6m TAGS: User friendly design, Users Interaction RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Protection for users during the using process and a labor-saving movement. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project was in the concept development stage.
