| DESIGN NAME: Happy Mother's Day PRIMARY FUNCTION: Holidays Greeting Cards INSPIRATION: The designer thinks that it is amazing if there is a card that can cheers people up. When people open this card, they can also open a story. The cover is a woman holding a carnation, but once it is unfolded, the whole family shows up and the blank area can be filled up the word which people would like to say. Happy Mother’s Day is a card that combines graphic design, illustration, and special cutting technology together. Receiving this colourful and playful card, the hiding surprise always can’t be expected. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project includes one card that is folded into a small size, once it is open, the illustration becomes into a full size, and the whole scene shows up. Also, there is a blank area that can write the word down. The illustration uses a soft colour plate to express a warm feeling. The idea is to have fun and give a blessing to people. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Unfolded the card with two hands, once the card is fully open, the whole illustration will show up. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The illustration was done in Adobe Photoshop, with Wacom Cintiq Pro, the final design was finished in Adobe Illustrator. Also, the designer used a cutting machine to cut the rounded outline of the card. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Folded:Width105mm x Height100mm Unfoldes:Width210mm x Height100mm TAGS: Card, Illustration, Graphic design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To design a special function greeting card, the designer has researched many different kinds of greeting cards nowadays. The designer opened each card and draw the functional parts down the paper, also tested each different design. Finally, the right way to cut paper was created. The whole new way to open the card finally came out into the world. CHALLENGE: After reached the holiday's card nowadays, the designer found it challenging to design a new function to the paper. The function has already been used for business success. In the end, the designer decided to combine illustration into a functional card, since every illustration is unique, combined them together, the new design could come to life.
