| DESIGN NAME: Diamond Fuji PRIMARY FUNCTION: Candle Holder INSPIRATION: Adaptable Living is a concept that shows how allowing the individual to customize and change their furnishings around their own lifestyle, creates a new connection and awareness to one's own furniture and creating a comfortable and fun living. Inspired by Japan's most iconic landmark; on this one candle holder you get two different types of Mt. Fuji; with reflected Up-SideDown Fuji on a lake. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Diamond Fuji is a candle holder that can be positioned in two ways. The first is positioned like a standard candle holder. When the candle melts down to the base, it creates the appearance of Mt. Fuji and its snow capped peak. Then, just by flipping it into a teacup candle, it resembles "diamond Fuji," which is when the sunrise pokes over the peak of Mt. Fuji and reflects off the lake in front of it. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Individuals have the ability to choose from the various playful functions: Tea cup candle holder, Taper Candle Holder, Small Item Holder, and stacked to play with the height and just appreciate the form of Mt. Fuji on your desk. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in mid 2017 and was exhibited during the ‘SaloneSatellite 2018 - Salone del Mobile Milano’. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Ceramic SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: H 55mm / W 77mm TAGS: Candle Holder, Tea Cap Candle Holder, Taper Candle Holder, Diamond, Fuji, Home Deco, Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research involved a practical creation of a candle holder, while keeping in mind the appearance of Mt. Fuji, and creating the affect of diamond Fuji. Creating a functional, yet fun and aesthetically pleasing design was key. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was designing an accurate candle hole on both sides of the candle holder, which allows a comfortable fit for the candle and an even surface for placing. Also, manufacturing the perfect shape and design was difficult since it is made from ceramic, a difficult material to shape in this way.
