| DESIGN NAME: Cross PRIMARY FUNCTION: 2way Buckle INSPIRATION: We are focusing on the serious shortage of artisans and handicrafts in Japan, and we are searching for a solution. For a team that makes things in a small studio in Tokyo like us, we need a product that can stock materials in a small space and that can be easily assembled. Development of general purpose metal fittings necessary for that was made the point of the project. Simple shape solves various problems flexibly. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The buckle features a primitive design that traces the function of the buckle that holds the belt. Two width bands can be passed through the long side and the short side. It will be a waist belt with a minimal configuration. The waist belt is a minimalist style with only a frame and pins. In addition, it can be expanded to products such as bags. Only metal fittings and cut leather can make high quality products without using special machines. By using this bracket, originality and a sense of unity are brought to the design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In case of Leather BELT. Bands can pass in two directions. 25 mm and 35 mm.You can choose a band of your choice. In case of shoulder bag.The belt that comes out in two directions is the role of a shoulder belt and a flap guide. In the backpack, use a buckle to assemble the main body and lock the shoulder strap. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We studied size variation of prototype in 3D printing designed using 3DCAD. Based on that data, craftsmen from Niigata made a silver master model. Rubber mold is used for mass production. By using the rubber mold, you can cast the undercut shape and complete the part that did not exist before. Belts and bags are designed to assemble using buckles. Leather parts are precisely designed with one large pattern. Without using any machine, you can assemble with metal fittings, leather, and human hands.
