| DESIGN NAME: Cribby PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Smart Crib INSPIRATION: The busy schedule of working parents these days increases the demand for baby monitors and similar devices. Parents-to-be undergo huge stress resulted by, among others, expecting a new family member, requiring new settings of care for the first months of their life. Parents simply waste time on researching the most suitable device for nannying, acquire multiple devices and installations, which often occupy considerable space, cause difficulties in managing, processing and controlling data from multiple non-integrated gadgets. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Cribby" is the first all-in-one, environmentally friendly, best handcraft practiced smart baby crib equipped with everything a modern parent would need: a scale, a built-in camera, a loudspeaker for talking to the child or playing a lullaby, dimmable lights, multiple monitoring sensors, including noise, humidity, temperature, motion detection, lights etc. It even measures room moisture, air temperature, and has light control sensors. All of this can be controlled via a smartphone. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Cribby is managed through a smartphone application allowing parents to monitor the newborn from a distance with the help of integrated sensors. Parents will be able to increase the quality of connection with kids, e.g. calming the baby from a distance via audio/video streaming, turning on a lullaby, dimming the lights of the crib and more. Additionally, it has a pre-installed diaper changing table which also serves as a scale. The smart device also allows parents to play music and audiobooks. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The prototype was introduced in December 2017 at AGBU Armenia. Since then, a lot of work has been done to improve the application and the functionality of the crib. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Made of organic materials including wood, plywood, and natural wood veneer, the furniture is manufactured with professional workmanship and is coated with wax oils and silicone paints. The crib is equipped with specially designed built-in hardware control system and multiple sensors. The crib's hardware is managed by a user-friendly mobile application which interacts with it with the help of Cribby's cloud service. Considering the fact that the furniture market grows at an annual growth rate of 5.2% now is a perfect time for the introduction of a next-gen hi-tech baby care solution in the form of a smart baby crib. CHALLENGE: Initially, the cradle received very diverse feedback, with some people insisting that the smart bed would distance the child from parents. So, we put an emphasis on helping parents to stay connected with their babies every single second. At the same time, the crib is designed to help parents to prevent any potentially dangerous or uncomfortable situations for the child. Furthermore, parents are no longer obliged to purchase a variety of devices to arrange at the bedside. The knowledge and expertise gathered during these years as well as the understanding of the crib and baby monitor market led to the foundation of Cribby. Gor Shahbazyan is an industrial designer and entrepreneur from Yerevan, Armenia. |
