DESIGN NAME: Bubble Vase
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vase
INSPIRATION: We have designed unprecedented products using new technologies. At the moment, 3d printing is not a perfect technology as it promotes in the media. Because it is an extremely analogous technique that requires low productivity and a separate surface finish. On the other hand we have used these shortcomings as characteristics of this technology. Therefore, using eco-friendly plastic extracted from cornstarch, we made 3d printing on the slowest and thickest to achieve a unique texture and gave a lacquer point, which is the traditional finish paint of oriental tradition.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 'The Bubble' is a series of vases made by combining various shapes and sizes of bubbles. We made 3d printing using environmentally friendly plastic extracted from corn starch. In addition, we added beauty to the center of the vases with similar but different voluminousness by giving them points with lacquer, which is an oriental natural finishing material. Especially when you use it, it returns to the ground and completely decomposes, which is different from other vases.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Bubble vases are made up of 4 shapes and sizes. Therefore, it may vary depending on the type and design of the flower. It is also very fun to use because you can stack up to four vases and make them into different shapes. Also, the color and texture of the silver series can give a different impression than traditional plastics.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2018 and finished in September 2018 in Seoul

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Bubble vases developed an eco-friendly vase design with a mix of 3d printing technology and an oriental natural lacquer finishing technique that no one had ever tried before. In particular, vegetable plastic extracted from corn starch does not pollute the environment, because it is naturally decomposed. In addition, a complete production system can be built to reliably produce.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In recent years, the consumer interest in eco-friendly materials has been amplified, causing serious problems with marine pollution caused by plastics worldwide. Therefore, Research has confirmed that there is a demand for eco-friendly plastics that are naturally decomposed.
In addition, new technologies such as 3d printers were curious about making our daily necessities and identified the possibility of putting new values into them.
CHALLENGE: 3d printing technology has many possibilities to enrich our lives, but the production speed is remarkably slow.
Therefore, in order to increase productivity, the size of the nozzle was increased and the laminated layer was increased, but the beauty of the high quality due to the nature of the translucent plastic-friendly light-to-gloss.
