| DESIGN NAME: The Spring of Chang'an PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chinese New Year Gift Box INSPIRATION: Xi'an, known as Chang'an in ancient times, as the capital of Tang Dynasty, it retains a large number of historical and cultural relics of the Tang Dynasty. In the exploration of Tang culture, we found that there are many New Year customs in contemporary China originating from Tang, but they are quite different from modern customs,so we presented the New Year's custom of Tang Dynasty through this New Year gift box. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This gift box is designed for the Chinese New Year which is also called Spring Festival,it means after this festival spring is coming.We named the gift box "The Spring of Chang'an", meaning the arrival of spring.Unlike other New Year gift boxes, this one is themed after tang culture.In order to represent spring, we chose four Tang cultural relics from Xi'an museum, picked up four elementsfrom them, "flower, bird, butterfly and fish", and used them to reflect the vigor and vitality of spring.The color tone of the gift box refered to the painting colors of the tang dynasty OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in August 2018 and finished in January 2019 in Xi'an，before the Spring Festival this year, more than 6,000 gift boxes had been sold. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The contents of the gift box are made of paper, mahogany and cloth, the materials are basically the same as those used in the tang dynasty. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 145mmx145mmx325mm TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Before starting the design, we read a lot of books about the folk customs of the tang dynasty, and selected patterns with auspicious meanings from the daily necessities of the tang dynasty in the museum.After the design was completed, we confirmed with the cultural experts of the tang dynasty that the customs, colors, patterns and other elements used were correct. CHALLENGE: The folk customs of the tang dynasty presented in this design date back to more than 1000 years ago, which is very strange to modern people. We need to make people feel the beauty of these folk customs through design, and then they are willing to understand it.
