DESIGN NAME: Atlantis Sanya
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Resort
INSPIRATION: The architectural design was inspired by Nan Tian Yi Zhu, a stone of 7 meters high in a renowned local scenic zone. And the interior design features full utilization of marine elements, irregular lines and picturesque formations. To perfectly realize the design solutions, ATG applied BIM-based Assembly Construction Technology and Stone Slice Splicing Technique, created leaning columns with steel structure and embedded-in luminaries and used revolving doors to partition the space in certain area
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Atlantis Sanya is an ocean-themed resort. Designers met the following major difficulties for the construction:
1.High and strict requirements for product positioning, construction quality& safety and fire management;
2.Large scale of the project, which boasts a total construction area of 500, 000 sqm(the hotel of 250, 000 sqm and water park of 90, 000 sqm were constructed simultaneously).
3.Challenges for constructing the irregular-shaped building facade, the aquarium and delivering of water, etc.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Atlantis Sanya is a mega resort. The inspiration of the architectural design comes from Nan Tian Yi Zhu, a stone of 7 meters high in Tianya Haijiao scenic zone. And the interior design features a dynamic and futuristic style and full utilization of irregular lines and picturesque formations which increased the difficulty in construction. With various trials and great efforts, the construction team worked out perfect solutions which were fully consistent with overall design intentions.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project location: No.36 Haitang North Road, Haitang Bay, Sanya 572000, Hainan, China.
Project duration: 3.5 years (from October 2014 to April 2018)

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 1. BIM-based Assembly Construction Technology
Measurements provided by BIM team were used to identify size and angle for connections.
2. Stone Slice Splicing Technique
Stones were manually bonded to aluminum honeycomb panels/granite stones and then cut into required plates.
3. Leaning Columns with steel structure and embedded-in luminaries
3D casting technique presented the unique glitter of plates and beauty of shells.
4. Partition by revolving doors
ATG welded square tubes to construct the base structure.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Atlantis Sanya is a resort providing integrated services covering hotel, entertainment, restaurant, shopping, art performance, logistics, international exhibition and distinctive marine culture experience. It enjoys the world's largest aquarium which is 18.3 meters high, occupying an area of 2,800 square meters and boasting more than 86,000 kinds of marine animals.

CHALLENGE: 1. Lobby
To present the scene of seawater movement, ATG designed irregular-shaped dropped ceilings with different radius and height, making it difficult to carrying measurement and construction work.
2. Public area passageway
The construction of the wall with undulating and curved surfaces along the passageway was very difficult. To achieve the expected effect, ATG selected aluminum panels with wooden grain pattern that were processed by heat-transfer printing techniques as construction materials.
