| DESIGN NAME: Visang Math and Science PRIMARY FUNCTION: Textbook INSPIRATION: In order to show a strong presence in the textbook market, he agonized over interesting materials and visual expressions. For math, space for each sign was designed into fun illustration to make difficult math easy and interesting. For science, curvy motif was used in common, but the great scientist, Newton’s episode was used for middle school, and photos and line illustration were used for high school to express the intensity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Math and science cover designs revealed each subject’s identity to raise VISANG textbooks’ brand value. For the expression of series from middle school, high school to advanced subjects, texture and motif such as signs were used, and changes were made through color and layout variation. Also, to lessen the burden of studying, they were plannedin lighter and brighter design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It was designed to express the keyword of 2015 curriculum, creative thinking, in design and deliver to students. Also, the coating method was changed to minimize damage, and the sized was changed for better portability in backpacks, improving user satisfaction. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Considering the difficulties that users experience in study aid materials due to colorful designs, white background and simple design were chosen. With difference in line shapes, middle school and high school textbooks were easily identified. Since they are for public education, excessive specifications were removed for a reasonable price, but the cover used spot color and embossing effects to express design features effectively. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size: Width 210mm Height 270mm Paper Material: Snow White 250g TAGS: VISANG, Textbook Cover Design, Textbook, Math, Science, Book Cover RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For this project, reviewed the entire book and discussed about the way to visualize material, and combined with numerous Korean typography for design with higher quality. The design that was completed through this process was adopted among many textbooks for its excellence and is being used in many schools. In particular, middle school math and science achieved No.1 nationwide adoption rate, raising brand value. CHALLENGE: Textbook designs should satisfy the author, students and teachers as well. Since the age group varies widely, the designed may not be welcomed by one side if preferred by another side. Considering this fact during design development and developing material through sufficient verification, support from conservative author and editor was gained, and the design was completed with story and graphics that suits user’s taste.
