DESIGN NAME:
War and Peace
PRIMARY FUNCTION:

INSPIRATION:
In the 1930s, The Great Depression occurred. World War II followed a few years later. It is said that The Great Depression was one of the causes. In 2008, the world encountered a financial crisis that is said to come once every 100 years. It can be said that the economic system based on seeking profit is the cause. Is the world going to repeat history? There is anxiety about the future of humanity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
"War and Peace" is the third poster series for our project "Piece Together For Peace" Project.
"War" is skull, "Peace" is pigeon. The two visuals made from map of the same size with only movement and rotation.
"Piece Together For Peace" Project makes the image of Nation, Corporation and Peace using the figure of land in the world. Then, I believe I could express the vision of people and world become unified.
"Piece Together For Peace" Project has the meaning that assembles the parts of piece like a puzzle for peace.

Draw a picture by using map.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
"Piece Together For Peace" Project started in November 2007 in Tokyo. “War and Peace” was designed in 2009.

Silk screen print on gross white paper.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This project visually expresses that the world becomes literally one by using the world map and it becomes peaceful. And it is sympathized by people all over the world such as blogs and SNS.
Furthermore, this project collaborates with WWF and related organizations of the United Nations to produce posters and symbols.
CHALLENGE:
It is very difficult and time-consuming to divide the world map into many fragments and to express it with only movement and rotation. In addition, selection of theme and motifs is also very important.

PROFILE:
Graduate of Tokyo Zokei University. After working for Tycoon Graphics, Kentaro Nagai established Graflex Directions on July 20, 2006 (37 years after the day man set foot on the moon for the first time).
With “vivid & bold” being the overall concept, he handles art direction and design for CI, VI, editorials, packages, products, he pursues the possibilities of expression through visual communications.
Award: NY ADC Silver, D&AD Wood Pencil, Epica Awards Silver etc.
Associate Professor of Tokyo Zokei University.
Member of NY ADC(The ONE CLUB), D&AD.

I was absolutely mesmerized when I saw Kentaro Nagai - Graflex Directions's work, "War and Peace". The visuals of their poster were stunning, making it a truly captivating piece of work.
