DESIGN NAME: Concept Store Swind
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Concept Store
INSPIRATION: Inspiration for the design originates from cave diving experiences. Consequently, all the visual and graphic elements aim to recreate free-flowing forms, surrounded by deep shades of blue and enhanced by curvaceous structures for the display area. The process of structuring this space skilfully combines a unique design concept with the brand’s identity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of this flagship store is an invitation into an imaginative submarine world. Located in Disney’s new ecological park, near Paris, this retail space embodies the natural spirit of the park by providing customers with a unique experience in an underwater scenery. The essence of this store is to combine the retail function with an experience of bio-design. The connection to nature is expressed by the organic shapes of the furniture and the use of mineral materials.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By deeply immersive scenography, Concept Store provides customers with a unique experience in an underwater scenery. The atmosphere, enhanced by the mineral materials and changing lights, invites the customers to navigate and experiment this suggestive space. Here, the retail function is in total osmosis with the exploring activity. The spectator become the experimenter and the materials become the independent tools.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was made in 3 months. The works and furniture realization started in September 2017 and finished in December 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main inspiration of this store is our passion for cave diving. Consequently, the principal idea was to engage the visitors in an underwater experience without getting them wet. All the elements like: organic shapes of furniture, association of the mineral materials, changing artificial lights throughout a day and ceiling mirror elements recalling the bubbles lend this showroom a real submarine appearance.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My research started with the analyse of my submarine photos taken during the cave diving. After, I focused on submarine biology elements. All this preliminary work succeeded with the “aquatic inspiration book”. With this sketches, I spend numerous hours with the specially selected carpenters in aim to find the technical solutions to give birth to this project.
CHALLENGE: The ecological restrictions of the park area, where the store is situated, were a part of a great challenge. My purpose was to combine the eco-quality of materials with their resistance of massive and daily use. And obviously steel keep all of the integrity of the project.
