| DESIGN NAME: Click Light PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interactive Lighting INSPIRATION: In this product we have been inspired by the mechanism of the light switch. After the re-interpretation of this simple interaction, making it more meaningful, new behaviors have arisen. Usually, the designer enjoys the fun from creating a piece and from testing different variations. With the new Click Light switch mechanism, the creative process shifts to the user, and people who see it for the first time immediately want to take part. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Click Light brings into the interior lighting design a unique element of personalization and interaction. You can connect a number of Click Light units and let the lighting ropes stretch, flow, drop, tie and twist between the metal surfaces in endless organic shapes and combinations, making each interior space unique and dynamic. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shelf unit is constructed from two metal surfaces through which low voltage electricity is running. Along with the shelf come LED embedded Nylon woven ropes, with magnetic ends that conveniently snap with a click to the metallic surfaces. When they do, an electric circuit is being closed and the rope light up, turning a flat, unassuming storage area into a piece that’s in a way collaboration between the designers and the costumer. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Oak wood, black coated metal, brass, nylon rope, LED strip (color temperature 3000K), neodymium magnets. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Each shelf unit: Width 760 mm x Depth 170 mm x Height 135 mm - Ropes length: 700, 1000 & 1300 mm TAGS: interactive light fixture, multi functional design, magnetic lamp, design improvisation, rope lamp RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of our favorite challenges is redefining the light switch so that it becomes a part of the phase that the fixture suggests. For example, we used the contraption of a rat trap to enhance the interaction with the light switch. This limited interactive light fixture opened the door for more dynamic light fixtures to follow. The Click offers a direct interaction- a direct contact and feel between the user and the product. This makes the experience and the personal connection much stronger. CHALLENGE: After Click Light was launched in the recent Wanted Design exhibition we understood that we have to find a creative industrial lighting company for mass production of the Click Light collection. Aqua Creations fits our vision of a creative industrial lighting company with a binding principle that goes beyond functionality. The result has been an outstanding cooperation. Aqua’s professional team has helped to fine-tune the product which is now precise with attention to all details. NAME: StudioKnob PROFILE: StudioKnob was founded by Adi Azar, a graduate of the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design and Yotam Shifroni, a graduate of the Holon Institute of Technology. StudioKnob’s creations range from unique one off items, small series and custom made pieces. Each of our artifacts tells a unique story thus revealing the fine line between art and design. The name "StudioKnob" is derived from the qualities which a knob adds to an object; it’s a handle, a button and a tool that adjusts and tunes. It is the small detail that affects the larger whole. When bringing a piece to life we wish to shed a new light on the world that surrounds us; objects, narratives, traditional crafts and cultural phenomenon. We wish to push forward into new frontiers, explore ever more ambitious ideas and find out where they can take us. |
