| DESIGN NAME: MP-002 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Picnic Table INSPIRATION: Enjoying public spaces and all its moments is fundamental for a city and the people who live in it. That is why it should have the infrastructure that encourages its safe occupation, is adapted to everyone’s needs, and coexists in total harmony with the urban environment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The MP 002 is an elegant piece of urban furniture designed for enjoying the city, either outdoors or undercover. This table provides people with a place on the street where they can meet together and enjoy their public spaces. Its timeless design is endowed with the strength to withstand a long life outdoors. It is characterized by its easy assembly, which significantly reduces its handling and shipping costs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: MP 002 is a highly resistant and adaptable product. Its adjustable levelers enable improved installation to any floor type, making it an extremely versatile element, and giving it enough stability to be either fixed to the floor or left un-fixed, as desired. Its nuts and bolts are left visible as part of its aesthetic. They reflect an honest product and highlight its main quality of being assembled. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The MP 002 was designed and developed in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, beginning in January 2016 and ending in September 2016. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The MP 002 was carefully designed to adapt to a diverse urban environment, where its setting may be anywhere from a park to a shopping plaza, to an under-covered area or outdoors. All of this created a challenge that required the product to be adaptable during its installation, assembly, transportation, and manufacturing. The result was a piece composed of lateral structures with folded reinforcing and screws, and interconnected with outdoor wood planks. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Material: folded carbon steel sheet, outdoor wood planks; Weight 125kgs; Width 2100mm x Height 720mm x Depth 1640mm; Finish: white paint, dark gray paint and galvanized; Foundation: Galvanized steel fixing components included. TAGS: Picnic table, park, urban furniture, street furniture, mexican design, industrial design. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project is the result of research into elements that promote human coexistence in outdoor spaces. Another important aspect is that sometimes these locations can be located in places of difficult access. This is the reason why our solution focuses on a product that is easy to transport and assemble. CHALLENGE: One of the main challenges in designing this product was to achieve an easily assembled piece with as few pieces as possible to facilitate its transportation without compromising on the high degree of resistance required. In addition, we wanted to follow the aesthetic inspired by traditional one-piece picnic tables but with a much higher formal and functional value than existing ones.
