| DESIGN NAME: Contourline PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office chair INSPIRATION: Inspired by the organic design philosophy and the soft wavy shapes produced by water when it flows through an object, which sculpt the chair and its characteristic contourline with a minimalistic and clean surface language. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ergonomic and elegant work and executive office chairs developed through an organic and clean design language. The external shape is made of one single plastic piece while the seat presents a fully ergonomic surface which surrounds the body providing a feeling of comfort and protection, enhanced by the chromed armrests of streamlined shape. Form and function united by a sinuous contourline that flows around the whole chair body. Designed to manufacture in mass production at reasonable cost. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Just sit and relax. You can adapt the total height with the extensible cilinder activated by a side lever and the total inclination through a thread located at the support base. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was realized between the 21 of December 2017 and 20 of March 2018 in Gijon, Spain. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Back plastic single piece manufactured by inyection molding. Ergonomic seat realized with interior molded foam and covered externally with any desired textile option. Chromed steel armrests realized by casting. The executive and the task chairs use the same armrest and tilting base mechanisms. All the different parts have been designed according to the manufacturer available production technologies. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Base mechanism type T022 with tilting and height adjustment. Low chromed rotating base of standard type K302. Body material: plastic. Body colours: preferably glossy white or black. Armrest material: chromed steel. Seat material: preferably technic fabric but also others, like leather could be used. Seat colours: preferably dark grey but there are many different colour and trim possibilities as red, light grey or even brown. Other trim possibilities like needlework lines can be used. All dimensions are showed in the attached file drawings. TAGS: chair, office chair, chair design, executive chair, work chair, organic design, organic chair RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Full research in office work chairs ergonomics and the latest trends in european state-of-the-art chair design. CHALLENGE: The design style was really clear at a very early stage, so the main challenge was to integrate it with the real ergonomic shapes in a fully developed model for a serial production at reasonable cost. It was hard to give a graceful softness and proportion to the external shapes and the main contourline, because the organic surfaces are in continuous flow and movement along the three dimensions and in consequence they need a careful and dedicated developing method.
