DESIGN NAME: Neptunus Obelisk Bracelet
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry
INSPIRATION: The artwork was inspired by Neptunus, God of the Seas and it can be seen as a metaphor of our inner world. Nevertheless the myth is only an excuse for an interior dialogue. The artist wants to investigate our interior deepest world using the image of the god as a chance to express this journey. Neptunus is symbolic figure, drawn in an seemingly natural position, observing us from the deepest part of the sea in a flattened perspective - a young contemporary god.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Neptunus bracelet is a body ornament that may be also intended as a sculpture to be placed on a surface (for example a table). A fossil bone is supported by a silver rope.
In the back of the artwork we can find a mirroring triangular plate surface with the engraved figure of a young Neptune with the trident.
Neptunus, the young god of the seas watching us from the deep, is represented by two symbols: the trident and the sandy bed of sea in the form of a gold drop and a silver waved plate.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Neptunus Obelisk body ornament is a rigid slave bracelet which can be worn for special occasions or can be vertically placed on any surface as a design object or sculpture.
If used as a jewel, it is suggested placing it on the left arm, with the fossil bone on the external side and the burin engraved surface on the internal side.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was born after having found the fossil bone on an Italian beach, it lasted at least two months to realise the idea and start with the first drafts. The longest part was finding a suitable model, taking the photographs and creating the drawing for the burin engrave. The concrete creation and assembling of all the parts took several months. In total the project took one year and was finished in 2008.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Neptunus Obelisk Bracelet is composed by a supporting structure realised as a navy rope with the technique of the lost-wax casting, a yellow gold drop and a silver oval waved plate representing the sandy sea bed, a fossil bone found on an Italian beach, representing an object returned precisely by the sea, a raw half-sphere in silver and last but not least a burin engraved mirror silver plate on the back side. The rope is quite linear but present a knot which helps the bracelet to be balanced on the arm.
The burin technique is an ancient technique here used to create some symbolic images.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The article is a unique piece cm 6 x 8 x 11 (H).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was born from an inspiration of the artist, who is always searching for new challenges and new projects which can meld different techniques - in this case for example lost-was casting and burin engrave - with natural materials giving her the opportunity to express an idea or to show an internal emotion.
This bracelet can be considered as artworks and not as commercial project. The artist is always trying to find new expressions to create masterpieces using the ancient technique of the burin engrave meld with the expressivity of the jewellery and body ornament.
Pictures of the bracelet were published on the jewellery book "500 SILVER JEWELRY DESIGN", Lark Book and on the magazine "Vogue gioiello" in 2009.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project was the burin engrave, since the particular perspective image required an high skilled manufacturing, next the welding of all the parts onto the supporting surface required a particular attention because of the different thicknesses of the various object to be fixed.
