| DESIGN NAME: Edro PRIMARY FUNCTION: Street furniture system INSPIRATION: The whole system has been designed with clean and essential surfaces in order to enhance the effect of the tangency between bench and vase. We kept plants as the center and main focus of this system because we wanted people to gather around them and share the beauty an beneficial effect of nature. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This street furniture system combines the vase for plants and flowers with the bench, keeping the nature as the center focus. The seat of the benches is obtained with two planes inclined towards the center, where a recessed drainage channel brings rain water into the vase. Starting from this original shape we then designed the whole system. The little recessed step lift the whole element, giving a lighter and willowy look. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Interaction with this project is very simple. Seat on the bench and relax in the shade of the nice plant contained in the vase. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project has been developed very quickly, in just about four months, between Milano and Treviso. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The whole system is made with UHPC, Ultra High Performance Concrete. Wooden seat is optional. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimension and weights varies od different element of the system. TAGS: Streetfurniture, Concrete, Design, Bench, Vase, Plants, Green RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project started with a wide research on street furniture and urban landscape design. Second part of the research focused on materials and techniques and this brought us to start to work and test UHPC, Ultra High Performance Concrete. CHALLENGE: New cities offer and impose new ways of leaving daily life and urban spaces. Therefore we defined a concept of a new system able to merge seamlessly nature and city.
