DESIGN NAME: Airnergy
PRIMARY FUNCTION: App for Reducing Energy Consumption
INSPIRATION: Air pollution is one of the world’s biggest problems. Research shows that most people living in cities do not care about this problem because air pollution is not always obvious. People will always adapt to the environment they are living in and ignore the problem because they are too busy to make efforts. I'm a gamer and I know how much game can motivate people. So using Gamification to motivate users came up to my mind.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Airnergy is a mobile app that combines gaming and utility features. It generates real-world energy consumption data in the virtual world and affects the in-game environment to motivate users to reduce daily energy consumption, reduce air pollution, and make our world a better place to live.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Airnergy is a motivational smartphone game. Competitions between friends stimulate people to keep on playing so that they can achieve better scores and win. Every player has a garden space to decorate as they wish. However, the in-game environment will change according to users' real-life energy consumption data. The app will automatically collect the usage data of each user. If users want to keep their gardens clean and beautiful, they must reduce their real-life energy consumption. Users can also attend green activities, such as tree planting, or purchase energy-saving products to earn bonus points. This will allow them to buy in-game products that will make their gardens look better.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in late 2012, finished in December 2013 and was exhibited in Reddot award online gallery in 2014.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main technique of this product is Gamification. A reward system. The most motivating way today to encourage users.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This app was design mainly in IOS system, android system design as an addition.

CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is how to collect personal daily energy consumption data in a very easy way so that people won't stop using this app from the first step. Turns out the idea could work when most of the users install a smart home system so that the data could be collected automatically. Otherwise it will require users to login through their energy account such as PG & E.
