| DESIGN NAME: 130YO Gran Cruz Packaging PRIMARY FUNCTION: Luxury Packaging INSPIRATION: In order to mark the 130th anniversary of the know-how and passion of Gran Cruz and to celebrate an historical date for this century-old Port producer, Omdesign designed and produced a special and exclusive bottle and packaging, limited to 250 bottles of an excellent quality Very Old Tawny Port, from a single harvest. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Determined to create an outstanding commemorative packaging, Gran Cruz has launched this luxurious edition, whose details reflect all the essence of Douro, as well as the cooperage artwork and aging of the distinctive wine Gran Cruz has worked on and prepared for this particular edition. Enhancing the quality of their products, history and values, Gran Cruz has selected an 100YO Very Old Tawny Port and a special icon screen painted on the bottle, representing the significance of the black colour. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To gather the uniqueness of Gran Cruz in a commemorative package, there was selected a specific collection of noble materials, namely wood, leather and gold finishes, carefully chosen to demonstrate the exclusivity and expertise of Gran Cruz. There was also a woman silhouette screen painted in the bottle, representing the iconic 'woman in black' worldwide known. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was started in September 2016 in Porto (Portugal) and finished in August 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bottle is integrated in a wood structure, finished with velvety touch. Inside we are invited to find out remarks in leather and gold finishes, underlining the luxury of this project. Every detail was developed to have a specific purpose, such as the bartop slot made to avoid the bottle to turn or to move; the icon screen painted in the bottle to illustrate the slogan, culture and history of the company or the cork stopper to keep the quality of this unique wine. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Gran Cruz House was established in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the banks of the Douro River, and founded in 1887. To celebrate its 130th anniversary and their unique age-old expertise, we have made a research in order to create a distinctive packaging and bottle with a luxurious design, that highlight the identity, values and personality of this company. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to create a premium bottle and packaging, able to eternalize and demonstrate the exclusivity of the 130 years of Gran Cruz, with a unique design, extremely distinctive finishes and, mainly, to add value to this exclusive project.
