DESIGN NAME: The Great Indian Kebab Factory
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The great Kebab Factory, is a unique restaurant that serves a huge variety of kebab's as specialty. The decor was based on the concept of creating a sense of nostalgia in the local patron’s minds subtly without letting the cultural overtones completely overpower the space. The cuisine being a specialized Indian cuisine needed a decor that was contemporary yet a little traditional.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Great Kebab Factory being a specialty Indian Kebab restaurant is designed to have a modern yet classical Indian style decor to inspire the traditional yet feel a warm and cosy space to dine in. Specific traditional Indian utensils have been used to adorn the walls in niches painted in strikingly different blue color that highlight the feature and bring out the traditional touch. The main feature of the restaurant is the live kitchen. The restaurant edges towards a fine dine restaurant but stays just shy of the same with the use of materials on the site.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The entry to the restaurant is from a foyer that is accentuated with specialty glass lights from Firozabad in India. A private dining area is on the left with an accentuated ceiling. The space is more of unitary space with minor partitions between table to create privacy. the space has been deliberately kept unitary for all patrons to be able to see the open live kitchen.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in apirl 2017 completed in dec 2017 is located in sector 26 Chaindgarh, Inida.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The flooring uses large broken stone done in mosaic with black granite borders, the ceiling is done in painted MDF and wooden rafters and MS sections in certain spaces, exposed brick cladding is used on the walls for the antique look, to highlight the wall elements painted blue background has been used in niche’s that house traditional Indian utensils.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Project is spread on a total are of 200 sq.mt. on a single level with 120 covers.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was conducted to understand mosaic flooring with large stones. Further study was also conducted to understand open kitchens and their interaction with the patrons.
CHALLENGE: Developing a unitary space in a large plate was the main challenge in this design. Wherein creating accentuated ceilings and almost invisible partitions for privacy posed a challenge for conflict resolution.
