DESIGN NAME: Illusion Spinner
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Toy
INSPIRATION: The Illusion Spinner was inspired by the desire to overcome the pressure that creatives feel every time they work on a project.
The floral-spiral pattern engraved on its surface is designed to allow creatives to playfully release the tension that rises throughout the creative process, allowing ideas that have yet to surface to come to life.
This behavior is tied to Ray Kurzweil's philosophy in "How to Create a Mind", that suggests that you need to give your brain time to 'deliver' a bulk of thoughts or ideas for any given stimuli.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Illusion Spinner is an unglazed, bone china spinner. Engraved on the spinner is a floral-spiral pattern which when spun, captures your mind through the combination of the whispery sea-shell sound of the ocean and a mesmerizing optical illusion.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: At first glance, the Illusion Spinner appears to be floating on a surface. A magical effect that allures users to touch the floral-spiral pattern carved on its surface. Upon touching its delightful coarse surface, the user will feel the spinner move, encouraging them to play with the Illusion.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2014 and was released on January 1st 2017.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Illusion Spinner was prototyped creating a model using Solidworks, 3D printing the model in ABS and finishing it using resin and spray paint to deliver a photo-realistic finish.
