DESIGN NAME: Plus+
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Screwdriver
INSPIRATION: As we all know, every time we try to use the screwdriver it will spend us some time in finding the right one. And all different kinds of screwdriver need a lot of space in receiving. To solve this problem, our design team offered a better solution in screwdriver design, which can make the screwdriver fits more requirement and use less space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our design has sections which are equipped by various tool bits. Plus and minus combinations can change its total length, which makes it adapt to various spaces and easy to carry. The tool holder of it is easy to insert and unplug and its grip feeling is excellent. And a striking symbol on its tool bit makes customers’ choice and intuitive.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Our project is kind of model combination design, combining with many same shaped screwdrivers with different heads. Users can plus or minus any screwdriver for their needing. This design can adapt to the complex usage scenarios and perfect storage problem after using it. Through the satisfaction unit sections’ buying, gathering, assembling, using, and storing bring, customers develop the brand loyalty and tool storage habits and reduce resource waste.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2015 in LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio and finished in August 2017 in National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our design is shaped by rubber injection molding technology.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: How to make your tools in a reasonable order when you put them in the storage box is always trouble us. We always want to find the right screwdriver immediately when you do something. The traditional one is using a lot of space in storage and cannot recognized easily. To solve this problem, the design team finding a smart way in screwdriver redesign, which make the screwdriver easily in using and storaging.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of our design is that we cannot find a reasonable way in it’s appearance which is satisfying in function at the beginning. After a certain number of sketching and discussing of our project, we finally find the proper selection which achieves the desired effect.
