DESIGN NAME: Deebot Ozmo 930
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Floor Cleaning Robot
INSPIRATION: The home environment is usually very complex; for instance, a child's room may be filled with toys, a work area stacked with tools, and the space that is currently being used. Users would sometimes want Deebot to avoid certain spaces when working. Meanwhile, there are carpeted areas in the homes of some users. These areas do not require the mop function nor want to get wet by the cleaning rag. As such, we have developed a unique smart partitioned cleaning and carpet identification function.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Deebot OZMO 930 is an intelligent cleaning robot, equipped with a LDS(Laser Displacement Sensor), capable of creating home maps quickly, performing the overall planning navigation. We designed the partition clean mode on the smartphone APP, users may select the partition area necessarily to clean. The Robot has a carpet identification function. It is able to automatically identify a carpet, and start carpet mode. When mopping, the robot would circumvent the carpet, and avoid wetting the carpet.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When the cleaning robot is activated, it automatically scans the home environment, generates a cleaning map, and cleans the floor according to the smart planning path. Users may set up the operational mode (sweep or mop) of the cleaning robot via a mobile phone App, and edit as well as select the areas that require cleaning. The DEEBOT OZMO 930 has a carpet identification function. While cleaning, it is able to automatically identify a carpet, and increase its suction power. When mopping, the robot would circumvent the carpet, and avoid wetting the carpet. After cleaning is completed, the floor cleaning robot automatically returns to its charging dock for charging, pending the next cleaning instruction.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in Suzhou, China, in January 2017, and was completed in December 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The DEEBOT OZMO 930 is equipped with the latest LDS (Laser Displacement Sensor), ultrasound carpet identification sensor, infrared distance measurement and other sensors, as well as the most advanced distance measurement and path planning procedures available at this time. It can come close without touching, and explore and clean more areas. Non-spray materials, unique translucent materials as well as the IMD technique have been used to manufacture the robot.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the process of designing DEEBOT OZMO 930, we organized a research task force comprising user research specialists, industrial designers, and product managers, and surveyed the home environments in different countries and territories. We found that different floor materials require different cleaning methods, and an ordinary cleaning robot would find it difficult to cater to different floor materials at the same time.
We have therefore studied the cleaning requirements of different floor materials, and have redefined the cleaning method of a floor cleaning robot, adding a carpet identification function. Via mobile phone setup, users can instruct the DEEBOT OZMO 930 to use the carpet mode when it is on a carpet, and use the mop mode when it is operating on floor tiles. It may also use an ordinary sweep-and-mop cleaning mode on floors.
CHALLENGE: Building a floor cleaning robot that is adaptable to various terrains of different home environments, and achieving accurate and reasonable intelligent partitioning were the most significant challenges we faced during our research and development as well as designing process.
