| DESIGN NAME: Convenience PRIMARY FUNCTION: Temporary lavatory INSPIRATION: Because of it incorporates urban sewage, Convenience can be placed anywhere with a sewer line and manhole cover. The team have got a brilliant idea in reusing the manhole cover. The grooved-putting cover can make the product balance during service time. And the unique appearance make the pass water will be discharged into sewage well directly by the urinal so that it will not store urine. Convenience can be self-cleaning on rainy days. It is so light that can be moved easily by municipal workers. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Imagine a scene like this. You, as a man, are having a wonderful first date with a adorable girl in congregation plaza. Oops! You has imperious demands to empty your bladder and you cannot find appropriate place nearby. Will you leave her alone right now? Absolutely not! But with Convenience, things changed. It is a temporary lavatory which incorporates urban sewage into design and suitable for congregation plaza, construction sites and some streets which are not able to set public lavatories. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The municipal apartment can remove the cover and put Convenience on the top of discharge. After setting Convenience, workers can put the manhole cover in the groove which is between two urinals’ back so that the cover won’t be lost. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2017 in LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio and finished in January 2018 in National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our design is shaped by plastic injection molding technology. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1300mm x Depth 1400mm x Height 2000mm TAGS: Environmental protection, Convenience, Redesign RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To avoid the awkward circumstance for nowhere to empty your bladder, the team offer a better solution of temporary man’s room by incorporating urban sewage into design. For temporary man’s room, as we all know, how to make it cleaning and where to put urine are big issues. Our team find a right way in it’s unique shape which can self-cleaning in those rainy days and let the pass water through into sewage well directly. CHALLENGE: The challenge of our design is that we cannot find a right place to put manhole cover at the beginning. After a certain number of sketching and discussing of our project, we finally find the proper way which achieves the desired effect. Now, the manhole cover is the key of how to make Convenience self-balance.
