DESIGN NAME: Kritsa Extra Virgin Olive Oil
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Olive oil package
INSPIRATION: Kritsa is an ancient village of Crete with great history, important tradition and a unique natural wealth. its inhabitants have managed to preserve precious heritage and eating habits. These are the elements that inspired us to design the olive oil packaging of this local agricultural cooperative. So we chose to combine the unique tradition with the modern design in order to make the product attractive to the global market.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is the package of "Kritsa" extra virgin olive oil. A unique and value product that is produced and packaged from the local agricultural cooperative of the traditional village of Kritsa. A glass bottle with a special shape, careful illustration and typography. The illustration has the engraving style and represents the traditional way of gathering the olives in Crete. The typography follows the same character in order to communicate in a modern way the tradition and culture of the area.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This packaging is ideal for protecting the good quality of olive oil. Glass is a material that preserves fluids perfectly. The bottle is dark inside in order to protect olive oil from light. The wooden cap has a flow regulator for ease of use.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project begins at 1st of February 2017 and finished at 28 October 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The illustration was originally designed with pencil and then edited on the computer. The bottle is made of glass painted white. The cap is made of dark natural wood. The black illustration and the typography are silk screen printed.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The size of the bottle is 7.6x19.5cm. The weight is 500gr. The volume range is 500ml.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The clients brief wanted a modern package design of a 500ml bottle that could communicate perfectly the best quality of a world awarded extra virgin olive to the global market without losing the traditional character of the local area. The research was based to that brief so we studied of the tradition of cretan culture, the folk art, the value and the quality of the olive oil, the special shape of the bottle and the target group.
CHALLENGE: The harder part of this project was the challenge of how could we communicate visually, with a modern way the tradition of such a village.
