| DESIGN NAME: Sweetie Baby Care PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sleep aid product INSPIRATION: With work-related pressure is increasing, children’s sleep has become a huge concern. Parents cannot acknowledge how to encourage their children to sleep and take care of children when they are sleeping. Inspired by the idea of making a sleep aid product to release the pressure of guardianship. In this way, this product is easy to promote children’s falling asleep speed, to provide accurate information of children’s sleep for parents, as well as to form children’s sleep habit by this product. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sweetie has the cute and safe performance and effective function. First, Sweetie can change their light color and soothing sound to make a comfortable environment. In this way, it can lead children to sleep quickly and awake naturally. Moreover, Sweetie also includes sensor to build a monitor part to ensure children safety. In addition, Sweetie has her face to express the time need to go to sleep or awake. It is predicted that children would make a good sleep behavior by sleeping with Sweetie. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sweetie is working in coordination with the mobile phone application. First, parents can set the light and sound of the Sweetie on the App. On the other hand, parents could set the bed time and awake time for their child, which can make Sweetie to change the expression of her face to tell children it is the time to go to sleep or awake. Furthermore, Sweetie transfer children’s condition to parents on the App. App can show the room’s qualities and if the children is crying or has emotional instability. Sweetie’s App can also make a report of day, week and month to the parents. In addition, to improve parents’ ability of guardianship, App would give tips to the parents. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2017 at the Beijing University of Posts and telecommunications in China and finished in June 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All parts of the Sweetie set are produced with plastic injection molding. Sweetie is connected to mobile phone via Wi-Fi. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Sweetie is packed within a package, which size is 300mm*250mm*180mm. TAGS: sleep, working parents, baby RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project revolved around the working young parents who do not have enough experience and ability to take care of their children sleep. We reviewed and summarized literatures and products in current market. After we defined target audience, many methods were used in ideation phase, including brainstorming, investigation and design sketching. Using user test evaluate the product concept and interaction prototyping. CHALLENGE: Main challenge was confirming the suitable appearance and function to meet users’ demands. It should be not only monitor children sleep, protect their health, but also promote sleep, improve sleep quality.
