DESIGN NAME: Champagne Cooler Tulipano
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cooling For Champagne and Other Bottles
INSPIRATION: One day I held a paper bag in my hands and I was thinking what could be done. And after some time the idea was born to create something new. But as I like always to call things in question and make something better or different. I did not want to design another bucket or another bowl. My design should come out different and so Tulipano was born.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There are a lot of champagne coolers on the market, they have form of bowls or buckets.
The design of "Tulipano" is totally different and it has two functions.
There is first the use for cooling bottles but also it can be used as a vase and so it is a really eye catcher on every table or sideboard. And for the stand is out of acryl the unique form of this cooler is not spoiled. Choosing the bag form was really optimal for this well turned out form Stainless steel is the ideal material to realize such an extraordinary design. The combination of two materials is giving the design an outstanding touch.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The object can be treated as normal bottle cooler and you can use as a vase. The effect of cooling is as opitmal as a normal cooler but you don't as much ice. Concerning the functions there are certainly more i.e. there are no limits for fantasy.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The duration of the project was about a year.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Food, Beverage and Culinary Arts Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The realisation of the prototype first was not easy, because one has to turn around a square sheet to this bag form that two sides meet and it has to be welded and polished. But the result speaks for itself.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: total height ( tube and bag ) 520 mm, the bag alone 480mm, diameter of the opening 210 mm.
TAGS: different form, new, unique, eccentric .
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I did not make any special research because this project was totally new
and I had to start from the very beginning. I could not fall back on any
experience.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this design activity was if generally this design is realizable. Would it be possible to work out a sqaure sheet of stainless and realize is extraordinary form.
