DESIGN NAME: Winbot WA3
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cordless Window Cleaning Robot
INSPIRATION: Surveys reveal that window cleaning has become more frequent. The Winbot range aims to meet the requirements of cleaning window facades of users living in higher floors of a building, and reduce the cost of labor, while lowering the risk of cleaning windows. However, the window cleaning products of the previous generation were restricted by power cords and electrical outlets, inconveniencing users. As such, we wanted to develop a cordless window cleaning robot for groups who have high-frequency window cleaning requirements.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Winbot WA3 is a cordless smart window cleaning robot. Equipped with a 3000 ma battery, the Winbot WA3 can operate for 50 mins. The robot is built-in gravity acceleration sensor, coupled with a post-optimized algorithm allows it to intelligently plan a N or Z shaped path. Users can also select a N&Z deep cleaning mode. Its back-up power system allows it to stay on the window for extra 30 mins. We have designed a new safety suction pod and a tether to further ensure the safety of Winbot WA3.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1.Turn on the Winbot A3 main machine and suction pod. 2. Connect the suction pod and tether to the main machine. 3. Press and attach the suction pod onto the glass. After the above steps are completed, users may attach the main machine to the window. Cleaning is activated at one touch. During the cleaning process, the machine automatically identifies and selects the optimal path. Users may use the remote control device to operate and select the cleaning mode on a real-time basis. When the battery is low or when the cleaning is completed, the machine returns to its initial position and emits a reminder.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Winbot WA3 is equipped with a gravity acceleration sensor, infrared sensor, as well as the most advanced path planning procedures available at this time, achieving cleaning with an intelligently planned path, thus enhancing efficiency. A pressure sensor and a 2.4 gram communication module monitors the mainframe and safety suction pod is degree of vacuum on a real-time basis, and promptly warns and reminds users when vacuum degree is lower than the safety threshold. Partially made of mixed fiberglass material, the body of the machine is light and robust.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: At the beginning of the design phase, we collected large volumes of data concerning the size of the home environment, glass area and promotion as well as window cleaning frequency and duration of users, and compiled user requirements to derive the basic function settings of this product.In the process of designing Winbot WA3, the research task force carried out feasibility tests at each phase, and continuously optimized the interactive experience at each phase from opening the box to the using the product.
CHALLENGE: To eliminate the restrictions imposed by the power cord and the positions of the electrical outlets, the Winbot WA3 was transformed from a plugged-in model to a charging model. Ensuring that the window cleaning robot operates safely without falling while able to efficiently meet the daily cleaning tasks given limited power were our biggest challenges.
