| DESIGN NAME: Simplicity PRIMARY FUNCTION: ECO friendly bussines bag INSPIRATION: Talking to customers I was faced with fact there is a big need for women business bags, to carry our gadgets, lap top and other personal things. Business bags that exist on market are mostly made of real leather because of wrong opinion leather is the only long lasting material. I asked myself; is it necessary to use real leather in manufacturing? I started to research ecological materials but also fashionable solutions. That is how I discovered cork, which was the starting point for my bag. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Simple shape, clear lines and accent on 100% ecological material is what this bag is all about. The beauty of Simplicity Cork Bag lies in its minimalism and purity. Straight lines are unleashed of all unnecessary details like metal buckles and clasps and replaced with simple but clever and creative solutions. What you notice first is material and natural rough texture of 100% recyclable and vegan Cork. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Living in time of fast changing trends often makes us forget about our responsible self. Responsibility to our planet and everyone around us should be our primary goal. We can influence people with our own example, starting with little steps and small but important actions. We can start with carefully choosing the products we buy and think more about materials that are used in fashion production. We can choose long lasting products over short term consumer goods. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started June 2017. and was finalised in August 2017., both in Baggiz studio in Cakovec, Croatia. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The basic cut of the bag is very simple; two square pieces for the bag body and two thin stripes for the handles. This cut makes it possible for material to be cut out with perfect usability, 100% usable, with 0% waste. Bag has cork shell which is padded with PES lining (also cut out with 0% waste). In the lining there is big sewn in compartment with two smaller pockets. Production of one bag (with cutting) takes 60min. Cork is very easy material to be cut and sewn because it is light, flexible but also very adjustable. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: dimensions: width 41cm, length 43cm, adjustable handles: 600-100cm TAGS: baggiz, simplicity, clear, business bag, bag, cork, ecological, vegan, environment friendly, animal friendly, responsible, recyclable, natural, renewable, biodegradable, long lasting, light RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I have been researching ecological materials and found cork to be one of the most environment friendly materials. It is made from the bark of the cork oak tree which lives around 200 years. Bark is removed every 9-12 years without damaging the tree.Thanks to cork's cell-like structure, the material is elastic, resilient and highly impermeable.Our customers think of Simplicity Bag as a perfect carrier but are also proud they are supporting a 100% nature friendly and vegan product. CHALLENGE: While designing a business bag I was faced with many creative challenges. Bag had to fill specific demands; be practical, safe for everything inside, had to offer a good organisation and also look nice. That is why I had to think not only about outside features but also inside performances. Big and safe compartment, inside pockets nad fine lining is what made it practical and up to users demands. Choice of material is what made it special, extra light and environment responsible. Special design features (like adjustable handles, economical cut) made it multifunktional and prudent design piece. We like to make bags for people who dare to step outside limited mainstream fashion and prefer individual and unique products. We love innovative designs mixed with high quality materials. We started designing and producing our handbags in 2006, in Cakovec, CROATIA / EU. In the beginning, our designer Ana was trying to design perfect bag for herself. Eventually one bag turned into a dozen, and dozen turned into our own design and production company. Since then we work hard on innovative and creative bag designs that are modern but also practical, unique but also adaptive to your daily needs. We spend a lot of time testing durability of new designs before they are turned into new collections, so we can be really sure they are close enough to perfect! |
